SchoolTube Video

Posted on February 3rd, 2009 in Uncategorized by ojlfms8

I chose to put this video on my blog because I think it shows some of the many examples of old video games. It shows games like Pac-Man, Alien Invaders, and Asteroid. Those are what kids use to play like around 20-30 years ago, until now. Many people loves to play the games that are out there today, but some people enjoys playing these old games. It may not seem fun to you, but for some, they love to beat those games. My critical opinion on this video is that old games can be entertaining too. kids today might say, “Wow, Pac-Man? that’s the lamest game there is. I like to play Gears of War II and Halo III.” I think that old games are more strategic than the ones in the present. So that’s why I put this video on my blog. ENJOY….

Direct Response to Berkeley

Posted on January 29th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ojlfms8

This is a blog post on my opinion in a blog story ”U.C. Berkeley Now Offers Starcraft Class”. At first when I was looking at other people’s blogs, they were all about books, movies, music, and other interesting ideas. Then, I came across THIS blog, and I started reading it. I never knew they had a class in a University about teaching students about gaming fundamentals.

So my opinion on this blog is that it’s very good. It kept me informed and all, but I think you can add something to this. Like you can give examples about the class, like, “Are the students enjoying this class?”, or “Are there any other games they are learning about besides Starcraft?”. You should also include info about Starcraft 2…wall3-1920x1200 by gatewayy. So you should always keep this blog updated to keep people like me interested. By doing this, more people might know you more. So think about it! Visit his blog at http://blog.wired.com/games/2009/01/uc-berkeley-int.html?cid=146726126#comment-146726126.

Another Blog Article

The blog that I’ve read that’s similar to mine is called “8-Bit Rocket”. It’s about a guy who loves to read books about games and loves to talk about the video game history. He mostly explains the books and stories of video games, but there are some history to them. In my opinion, I think that his blog is like 50 times better then mine because his website has so many more information. He also included plenty of links to fun mini-games, gaming book web sites, and history of gaming websites.

From the looks and the information of the blog, he has gotten A LOT of info to the people needing of games. He talks a lot about the company Atari with the games they created. From the looks of it, it seems like he updates his blog almost every time a new game or game book comes out. The thing that really caught my attention is when he talked about “2 new books about the history of video games set for release”. I read parts of the writing and it was interesting. The first book is called, “Racing the Beam: The Atari Video Computer System” and the second book is called, ” Vintage Games: An Insider Look at the History of Grand Theft Auto, Super Mario, and the Most Influential Games of All Time”.

So that’s mostly what his blog was about. I enjoyed reading his articles. So here’s the link to his blog…

Google Gadget Pac-Man

Posted on January 13th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ojlfms8

I chose the Pac-Man from the Google Gadget website because I thought that this old game really shows what it was like to play games from long ago. Of course This Pac-Man version was not the same compared to the older versions. It didn’t have much effects like for this one.

I think this game will offer readers a little gaming history from back then. In my point of view, I think that the readers would soon get a little tired from playing Pac-Man for a while because it’s no “fun”. Kids back then were hooked onto these kinds of games. So that’s what I think will offer readers by playing Pac-Man.

New Technologies Affecting Kids

Posted on January 7th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ojlfms8

Long ago people got entertainment from pinball games, to shooting gallery games. It wasn’t much fun back then because the technologies they had weren’t so good. But soon, as time passed, the gaming ways were improving. Like tennis for two or pong. During these times when technology was developing, kids were getting very excited over these games and systems. I’ll tell you why the improving technologies are affecting the minds of the childeren.

Kids always usually went outside to play with their friends and hang out, but as soon as games came out to the world, they would rather be playing games instead of going out. The first game that came out was called “Tennis for Two”. It was a tennis game that kids played with this box shaped controller that only had 1 button and a control stick. It used a oscilloscope which was the thing you look into to play the game. It looked something like this….Front Panel by Telstar Logistics.http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.0/deed.en

Well, at first, kids weren’t really aloud to play this game, since it was a bit big. As soon people started creating games, it started to get smaller and smaller.

The second game that was created was called “Pong”. This came out to the kids because anyone could of played the game. For this game, all you needed was a T.V. to connect the wires onto it. Then, you can play pong. It looked like this….pong undead!!! by astio.http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/deed.en

This affected the lives of kids because soon, they just wanted to play video games all day instead of going out. Then, they wanted more and more games and systems because they want more entertainment in their life. So that’s how improving technologies affected the lives of kids.
